Interesting perspective

You remember the story

Jesus drives out the demons and they inhabit a herd of pigs, causing them to run to their death. Matthew 8
The Lord had had a Busy day doing the Will of His Father.: healing, raising the dead, driving out demons, teaching and showing control over the weather.

This particular day two men, under the control of demons, come to meet him.  The demons trying to "strike a deal" end up with Jesus casting  them out as they entered a drove of hogs which then fell to their death.

WOW. YOU DON'T SEE THIS STUFF EVERYDAY!

V34 "and behold, the whole town went out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw  Him they begged Him to depart from their locality"

This just strikes me....why?
Did they really like bacon that much?
Had they not seen the myriads of Freed People left in Jesus wake?
Had they not heard?
Has they not seen?

Too often we are a people that just react ...only to ponder after the fact
Someone's livelihood was seemingly destroyed and that one situation was enough for them to urge Him to go.

So interesting

How might the story have ended differently?

  1. I remember thinking on this part of scripture I read when I was first saved:

didn't they see this man who was once demon possessed (and that they were probably afraid of seeing as how strong he was and they couldn't hold him down with chains) now in his right mind - healed by Jesus? Wasn't this something great and didn't they want more of what He had to give? and the pigs were killed by demons, did they want to be "killed" by demons too?

  2. Seems like I heard that in a message from a preacher from the pulpit, that after Jesus had left, the delivered man turned to be a huge witness to the town and so later when either Jesus or some of his disciples came back, the whole town was ready for the gospel in a big way?

  3. Dear Marnie, Let's hear it for tunnel vision. How often do we miss the big picture when we only look at the immediate? What would have happened if instead they had been like the woman at the well. At first cautious, then amazed, then free, then willing to share Jesus with others. What did Jesus do? He stayed with the Samarians for a few days. I would have rather been them, than being upset over the loss of my now demon possessed pigs . Some things never change. God bless, Donna
